Emily & Marcus’ The Ashes Wedding

October is already off to a busy start, in keeping with the rest of 2021. This time it was Emily and Marcus’ big day, at one of my favourite Staffordshire wedding venues, The Ashes. I’ve been to The Ashes so many times over the years, it’s a great venue, and one I always look forward to revisiting. I arrived a few hours before the ceremony was due to begin, and spent time getting some shots around the venue.

Before long Marcus arrived, closely followed by their family and friends. The weather was warm and dry so everyone was able to enjoy some time outside before heading into the barn for the ceremony.

The Ashes Barns Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony barn at The Ashes is beautiful, definitely one of my favourites. It has a great balcony at the back, providing extra seating, or it is a great spot for my B-Cam. Once all of the guests were seated, Marcus took his spot at the front of the barn. It was then time for Emily to make her way to the ceremony. Escorted by her very proud father, they walked arm in arm, to the ceremony. It’s always a heartwarming moment seeing the bride being escorted by her father, to meet her husband to be at the bottom of the aisle.

The ceremony was beautiful, with a lovely reading from Marcus’ best man. It was a real pleasure to witness Emily and Marcus tie the knot and begin their journey together as husband and wife.

The Ashes Barns Wedding Reception

After the ceremony, their photographers SMD Photography and I rounded up all of the guests for a confetti line. Always one of my favourite shots of the day! We then let the guests relax for a little bit, before getting some family portraits. Because the weather was nice we were able to enjoy the drinks reception outdoors; which is definitely a bonus in October.

Once we’d wrapped up the family portraits we whisked Emily and Marcus off for some couples portraits. Rain was incoming so we worked quickly. Mitch from SMD Photography had already scoped out some cool areas to take Emily and Marcus too, some areas that I’d never even explored at The Ashes. It’s always great to work alongside new photographers for the first time, as they will always have a new perspective.

After a lovely portrait session, and getting caught in the rain, it was time for the speeches and wedding breakfast. They were both wonderful, and a great evening party followed on.

Emily and Marcus put together a fabulous day, and I know this marks the fantastic first step in their great adventure together.
